Tips and Tricks to Encourage Brushing

Not all children jump into the habit of brushing twice a day so easily. In fact, it may take some parental encouragement to get them going. That’s not so uncommon. Fortunately, there are lots of fun and engaging ways to make brushing time something to look forward to for both parent and child. And you may find as your child grows, they may need a different method of encouragement. That’s fine because there are plenty of ways to get them to be expert brushers. One of these methods is bound to help you and your kid become a regular brusher. Just remember to stay positive and keep it fun. Keep in mind that children don’t always cooperate on some days, and it’s okay if they don’t want to try something new. The important thing is that their teeth get brushed without making their brushing routine a negative experience. Because when they brush well, everyone wins. Here are some ideas to get you – and your kid – started.

Download the Free Disney Magic Timer App by Oral-B

The Disney Magic Timer App by Oral-B can be downloaded for free onto your smartphone or tablet. Your kids are encouraged to brush for a whole two minutes by their favorite Disney, Star Wars, and Pixar characters whilst earning stickers and exclusive virtual experiences.

Brushing Dance Party Playlist

Create a playlist of your kids’ favorite songs and turn brushing time into a brushing dance party that happens twice a day. Pick any song and brush your child’s teeth as it plays for two minutes. Everyone can dance along if they like. Remember after two minutes, brushing time is done!

Roleplay with an Original Story

Create an original story that involves real-time brushing as a way to save the day. Maybe their teeth are animals that need a good cleaning to be happy. Maybe Princess Enamel needs rescuing. In every story, they’re the hero with the brush.

Other story themes:

  • Aliens have invaded Planet Teeth. Defend it by brushing.

  • Each tooth is a car that needs cleaning.

  • Evil Cavity Dragons have invaded the Teeth Kingdom. Only brushing can fight them off.

Brushing Roleplay with Dolls

There are lots of toys and dolls available that come with their own toothbrush, all designed to encourage kids to brush. When kids see their beloved toy having their teeth brushed, it will motivate them to do the same.
